Harrow and Wealdstone Crash Kills 112

Overview

On the morning of Oct. 8, 1952, three trains collided at Harrow and Wealdstone station in what is today Greater London, killing 112 people and injuring 340 more, with 88 being hospitalized. It remains the worst peacetime rail crash in British history and the second deadliest following the 1915 Quintinshill rail disaster.

An overnight express train from Perth, Scotland, collided with the rear of a local passenger train stopped at a platform, blocking adjacent lines. Seconds later, a double-headed express train traveling north at 60 mph struck he two trains.
