The U. S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure will hold a hearing about Tuesday’s fatal Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia, U.S. Bill Shuster, R-Penn., said today.

“I am appreciative of the all the work being done as this accident investigation continues,” Shuster, chairman of the committee, said in a statement. “Obviously, the results of this investigation will be critical to understanding all the circumstances involved in this tragic incident. It’s also important for Congress to assess and understand the related safety and infrastructure policies currently in place in order to determine what next steps may be necessary, and I intend to hold a Committee hearing on this issue sometime after Memorial Day.”

Additional details of the hearing will be announced at a later date.
