Amtrak Preparing to Celebrate 40th Anniversary

WASHINGTON – On May 1, 2011, Amtrak will celebrate 40 years as “America’s Railroads” providing vital intercity and high-speed passenger rail service to the nation and offering a critical transportation choice for both urban and rural communities. Preparations are now underway for several activities to commemorate the occasion, the railroad said.

NEW YORK – Amtrak president Joe Boardman participated in a roundtable discussion regarding high-speed rail in the Northeast Corridor hosted by House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman U.S. Representative John Mica. Amtrak Keystone Service to Add Quiet Car

WASHINGTON – In response to customer demand, Amtrak Keystone Service (Harrisburg – Philadelphia – New York) will add Quiet Car service starting Jan. 24, providing passengers with a peaceful, quiet atmosphere to work or rest without distraction. The coach car adjacent to the locomotive will typically be designated as the Quiet Car. Seating on the Quiet Car is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and cannot be reserved. There is no additional charge for a seat in a Quiet Car.
