With billions of dollars Congress set aside in last year’s infrastructure bill, some lawmakers would like to see Amtrak restore and expand routes.

Lawmakers sent a letter to Amtrak Wednesday requesting a briefing as well as all documents related to how taxpayer-subsidized Amtrak may be used to transfer illegal immigrants across the border.

“We are deeply saddened by yesterday’s tragic event and mourn those who lost their lives. For those who helped others, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation.”
