The nation’s freight railroads today announced that they expect to reduce the rate of greenhouse gas emissions by 18 percent by 2012, as part of President Bush’s “Climate VISION” initiative.

U.S. intermodal rail traffic rose 11.2 percent (87,164 units) while U.S. rail carload traffic fell 0.1 percent (2,020 carloads) in January 2003 compared to January 2002, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported today.

Intermodal traffic on U.S. railroads set an annual record during 2002, for the sixth time in the last seven years, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR).

Freight traffic on U.S. railroads was up during the week ending Dec.14, in comparison with the same week last year, the Association of American Railroads reported.
