The award recognizes extraordinary achievement in support of the TRANSCAER (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response) initiative. TRANSCAER is the voluntary national outreach effort to help communities prepare for and respond to a possible hazardous material transportation incident. In 2009, Union Pacific organized or assisted with multiple events that led to training more than 4,800 emergency responders. OMAHA, Neb. — Union Pacific will improve Nebraska’s transportation infrastructure with a $7.5 million investment to improve the rail line that runs from North Platte to O’Fallons, Neb.

OMAHA, Neb. — Union Pacific will improve part of Kansas’ transportation infrastructure with a nearly $6 million investment to its rail line that runs from near Bunker Hill to Walker, Kan. The projects include removing and installing more 20 miles of rail and more than 10,000 ties, spread more than 10,000 tons of rock ballast to ensure a stable roadbed and renew the surfaces in 28 road crossings.
