JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – CSX Corporation announced today the opening of its newest METALNET facility in Lawrenceville, Pa., five miles from downtown Pittsburgh.
METALNET’s newest warehouse provides 50,000 square feet of covered, secure storage, to ensure damage-free handling, and can handle a variety of metals products such as coiled-sheet steel, bar, rod and structurals. The facility has heavy (50-ton) lift capabilities for handling a wide variety of metals products, and can accommodate shipments in gondolas, flat cars, and boxcars.
METALNET is a flexible multi-modal transportation and distribution network established to meet the unique requirements of the metals industry. METALNET provides the most comprehensive metals distribution network in North America, delivering truck-competitive single-factor rates for door-to-door movement of metal products. Shippers send product to the METALNET facility via rail, orders are stored in covered, secure warehouses, and trucks make the short-distance, just-in-time delivery to receivers.
“Rail has always been an economical way to ship metal,” said Mike Filoni, CSX account manager. “Now thanks to a strategic alliance between CSX and Pittsburgh’s oldest and most trusted trucking company, PVO Express, it’s easier and more reliable than ever.”
With more than 120 facilities that provide transloading, warehousing and logistics services, METALNET handled more than 60,000 rail carloads in 2001, including all types of ferrous and nonferrous products.
