At least two dozen people were killed and more than 300 injured after a passenger train derailed in Turkey, according to published reports.
The train was traveling from Edirne to Istanbul. According to the Daily Mail, “five out of six cars left the rails after it ran over a section of track that partially collapsed after the ground underneath it gave way following heavy rains.”
Following the derailment, a Turkish engineering union said a drainage system along the tracks was incorrectly built.
“This disaster took place because of foreseeable and preventable reasons,” The Associated Press quoted the group as saying in a statement.
