Overview
Rail traffic on the Louisville & Nashville Railroad was halted for approximately three hours when the motor used to operate the swing span of the Cumberland River bridge failed while the bridge was open for maintenance work. Several freight and passenger trains were delayed before repairs were completed and the bridge was restored to service. The Leaf-Chronicle noted that this was the same bridge involved in the well-known 1947 locomotive accident.
