New Book to Highlight Athens, Georgia, Streetcars

DULUTH, Georgia — A new book from Railfanning.org Publisher and Editor Todd DeFeo will explore the history of streetcars in Athens, Georgia.

The new book was announced on Saturday, August 26, during the 63rd Atlanta Model Train Show at the Gas South Convention Center, where DeFeo’s book on the Atlanta Northern Railway was a hot seller.

The DeFeo Groupe will publish the Athens streetcar book — tentatively titled “A Brief History of Streetcars in the Classic City” — on November 1.

“Like so many cities, the Classic City once had a robust streetcar network,” DeFeo said. “When exploring the city’s railroad history, many overlook streetcars’ role in Athens’ development. I hope this work helps give readers a new appreciation for the streetcars that once rumbled along Athens’ streets.”

The Railfanning.org Store will sell the book once it is published.
