ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named state Rep. Deborah Silcox, R-Sandy Springs, as the chair of the House Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Overview Committee.

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington, makes House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives. It also named Silcox vice chair of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee.

“I want to thank Speaker Burns for the opportunity to serve again as MARTOC Chairman,” Silcox said in a statement. “It has been a great pleasure to work with MARTA CEO Collie Greenwood and his team to help MARTA work towards safer, cleaner and more reliable transit in Atlanta. As we move closer to hosting eight World Cup matches here in 2026, I look forward to helping MARTA succeed as they bring on new rail cars, lay out the new Bus Rapid Transit routes and continue making substantial capital improvements that invest in the future success of our region.”

MARTOC is a statutory committee with oversight of the MARTA budget.

The House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee has jurisdiction over Georgia’s criminal code and procedure, drug enforcement, sentencing, parole and pardons and immigration. Any legislation that includes possible criminal penalties can be referred to the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee.
