CSX Transportation has filed a verified notice of exemption to abandon a roughly 0.72-mile rail line between milepost BBR 6.89 and milepost BBR 7.61, on its Northeast Region, Baltimore Terminal Subdivision Division, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
The line has no stations, and CSX has certified that no local traffic has moved over the line during the past two years and that any overhead traffic can be rerouted over other lines.
It also confirmed that no formal complaint filed by a user of rail service on the line regarding cessation of service over the line is pending with either the Surface Transportation Board or any U.S. District Court, or has been decided in favor of a complainant, within the two-year period before filing the notice. Additionally, the railroad said it has met additional requirements, including the notice of environmental and historic reports.
Petitions to reopen and requests for public use conditions must be filed by Oct. 5. If CSX has not consummated the action by filing a notice of consummation by Sept. 15, 2027, and no legal or regulatory barriers remain, the authority to abandon will automatically expire.
