(Railfanning.org News Wire) — One year ago, Dallas Area Rapid Transit opened the Silver Line, marking the agency’s first rail expansion in a decade.
The line connects the North Texas communities of Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, Dallas, Grapevine, Plano and Richardson to each other and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The connection to the airport also made that international hub accessible via three direct rail lines: Silver Line, TEXRail, and the Orange Line.
“By providing a direct transit connection to DFW, the Silver Line has become an important part of the transportation network supporting North Texas’ continued growth and competitiveness,” DFW Airport Chief Executive Officer Chris McLaughlin said in a release. “This service milestone reflects our shared commitment to expanding mobility, connecting people to the destinations and opportunities that matter to them – while also strengthening our region’s economic vitality.”
The 26-mile regional rail service opened Oct. 25, 2025, in a day-long, multi-city celebration that highlighted the unique attributes of the neighborhoods around each of the ten stations along the line.
DART and the city of Richardson recently celebrated the lighting of the US-75 arches as part of the ongoing construction of the Silver Line and corresponding 51-mile Cotton Belt Trail connecting Plano to Downtown Fort Worth.
Recognizing the importance of connecting travelers with regional transportation options, DART and DFW Airport are collaborating to train airport ambassadors. DFW Volunteer Ambassadors assist travelers from around the world, helping them navigate the airport and understand their transportation options.
