The South Florida Railroad was the first railroad to serve Winter Park, Florida. The railroad ran its first train from Sanford, Florida, to Orlando, Florida, on November 11, 1880, and it ultimately completed a line between Sanford and Tampa.
The South Florida Railroad built the first Winter Park depot in 1882. The Plant System subsumed the South Florida Railroad, and the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (ACL) subsumed the Plant System.
The ACL built new passenger and freight depots in Winter Park in 1913. The railroad used the freight depot until 1982 when the city purchased it.
In 1962, the ACL built a new passenger station. It remained in service until March 3, 2014, when the current station opened. It serves both Amtrak passenger and SunRail commuter trains.
