The South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close the Catawba River Road bridge in Chester County for repairs starting Oct. 21.
The bridge crosses an abandoned railroad, and the closure is expected to last until the end of November.
During the repairs, the road will be closed at the bridge site and traffic will be detoured using Rock Hill Highway (South Carolina 5), Charlotte Highway (U.S. 521) and Highway 9 Bypass West (South Carolina 9). Catawba River Road will be open to local traffic only, except at the bridge site.
The railroad is apparently a former Seaboard Air Line spur.
