DeFeo to Present ‘Oddities on the Georgia Rails’ at the Georgia Archives

Todd DeFeo, publisher and editor of Railfanning.org, will present “Oddities on the Georgia Rails” for the Georgia Archives’ December Lunch & Learn.

The presentation is on Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Georgia Archives, 5800 Jonesboro Road, Morrow, Georgia. The Lunch and Learn presentation is free, and no registration is required.

While many histories center on dates and places, they overlook some funnier, if not downright bizarre, happenings throughout the years. From armed robberies to a duel between long-time friends, some of the most intriguing events to happen in history were plain weird. Author Todd DeFeo recounts some of the highlights (or lowlights) that happened on or near the rails in Georgia.

DeFeo has written extensively about railroads, authoring several unique railroad books, including histories of the Atlanta Northern Railway, the Memphis, Clarksville & Louisville Railroad and the Western & Atlantic Railroad. His presentations include rare and well-researched anecdotes to bring the stories of those affected by railroad mishaps to life.

Ga. legislature approves pair of MARTA bills

ATLANTA — The Georgia General Assembly has approved a pair of measures related to MARTA’s operations, and the bills await the signature of Gov. Nathan Deal. House Bill 264 would suspend a section of the MARTA Act of 1965 that prohibits the agency from using more than 50 percent of its annual sales and use tax proceeds for operating costs. Should Deal sign the bill into law, the prohibition would be removed until June 30, 2019.
