Person Dies After Being Struck by Train at MARTA’s Civic Center Station

ATLANTA — A man died Saturday morning after he was struck by a MARTA train at Civic Center station, according to MARTA police.

The incident happened on June 13 at about 10:43 a.m., when a MARTA police officer aboard Train 307 notified police communications that a person had been struck by the train at the station.

According to a preliminary investigation, the man arrived at Civic Center station by train at about 10:32 a.m. Police said he sat on a granite strip on the platform at about 10:35 a.m. before entering the northbound trackway alone.

Moments later, the man attempted to climb back onto the platform but was unable to do so, MARTA police said. At about 10:40 a.m., a MARTA train struck him as he was trying to climb back onto the northbound platform.

MARTA police units, Atlanta Fire 11 and Grady EMS 754 responded and rendered aid, but the man died from his injuries.

Detectives with the MARTA Police Criminal Investigations Unit said there is no indication of foul play and that evidence shows the man entered the trackway alone.

The investigation remains ongoing.
