First Streetcars Begin Operating in Clarksville, Tennessee

Overview

On Dec. 15, 1885, the Clarksville Street Railway began operating mule-powered streetcars. The line connected downtown Clarksville with the Louisville & Nashville Railroad depot. The service marked the beginning of more than four decades of street railway transportation in the city.
