At least three people were killed and 100 injured when an N.J. Transit train crashed in Hoboken terminal around 8:30 a.m. today, according to NBCNewYork.com.
Pascack Valley Line train No. 1614 apparently crashed into the terminal, according to the New York Post. It is not immediately clear what might have caused the train to crash, though one source told NBCNewYork.com. it was either accidental or operator error.
“The front car is essentially off the rails … into the building of the station, with the roof sort of collapsed around it,” CNN quoted one passenger as saying.
At least 250 people were on the train at the time of the crash, ABC News reported. The train may have been running late at the time of the crash, according to a media report.
“You felt like this huge, huge bang,” NBC New York.com quoted a passenger as saying. “The lights went off, and then you started to see like –- I was in the window seat, so I could see like outside, what was happening, and the roof just collapsed on the first car.”
Photos posted to Twitter appeared to show major damage to the station.
