CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum today said it is working to move the historic Terminal Tower from its current location at the Chattanooga Choo Choo to the museum’s property.
Choo Choo Residences LLC, a subsidiary of LIV Development LLC, purchased a seven-acre area from the Choo Choo complex for $5.25 million, the Times Free Press reported. The group is planning to build a four-story, 283-unit apartment building where the tower currently sits.
To make way for the apartments, builders are planning to raze the two-story Terminal Tower.
“This building is an integral part of the very being of Terminal Station,” Chattanoogan.com quoted David H. Steinberg, one of the first employees of the Chattanooga Choo Choo, as saying. “This was the place where trains were shifted from track to track in the station itself and where the trains were dispatched to the most remote parts of the country.”
