NS Earnings: Net Income Down 23 Percent

Norfolk Southern Corp. today reported net income for the quarter was 23 percent lower than a year ago. Net income for the quarter was $433 million compared to a record $562 million for the second quarter of 2014. Diluted earnings per share were $1.41, down from $1.79 per diluted share in the second quarter a year ago. “While we face short-term pressure, particularly as we clear fuel surcharge revenue and coal headwinds, Norfolk Southern is well positioned to continue improving service, which will reduce costs and add value to our customers,” CEO James A. AAR Awards CSX for Automotive Ramp Service Quality

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has awarded CSX and its wholly-owned subsidiary Total Service Distribution Inc. (TDSI) with an award for the highest-quality automotive ramp service performance in the country. “The recognition of these facilities is indicative of the level of quality we deliver throughout our network of world-class vehicle distribution centers,” Clarence Gooden, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, CSX, said in a news release. “Our core strategy for our automotive customers focuses on delivering safe, high-quality service every day, and we appreciate the recognition of the hard work of our automotive network employees.” The AAR bestows
