Ridership on Metra, the taxpayer-supported commuter train agency that serves Chicago and its suburbs, continued to remain significantly below pre-pandemic levels in 2021 while the agency’s operating expenses continued to grow.

Amtrak said recent infrastructure improvements along a 16-mile segment of track between New Brunswick and South Brunswick allow trains to travel at speeds up to 150 mph.
