Dock Bridge is a six-track, triple-span, moveable lift bridge on the Northeast Corridor.
The Amtrak-owned bridge, which the Pennsylvania Railroad opened in 1935, crosses the Passaic River between Newark, New Jersey, and Harrison, New Jersey.
As of 2025, the bridge carries 720 daily Amtrak, Port-Authority Trans-Hudson, and New Jersey Transit trains between Newark and Manhattan. However, the bridge is often stuck, interrupting the flow of rail traffic.
The west span carries three tracks used by Amtrak and NJ Transit. The east span carries two PATH tracks for its Newark-World Trade Center service and one Northeast Corridor track that Amtrak and NJ Transit share.
Due partly to its use of the bridge, PATH is classified as a commuter railroad under the jurisdiction of the Federal Railroad Administration, even though it has long operated as a rapid transit system.
Amtrak and its partners are working to advance the Dock Bridge Rehabilitation Project as part of the Gateway Program.
