The Port of Savannah’s 85-acre Mason Mega Rail is North America’s largest on-dock rail facility, with daily rail departures from CSX and Norfolk Southern to inland markets.

The Georgia Ports Authority broke ground on its $126.7 million Mason Mega Rail Terminal in March 2018. In November 2021, GPA commissioned the terminal’s final nine of 18 working tracks.

As of January 2024, the port moved roughly 20% of cargo via rail to inland destinations and 80% by truck. Mason Mega Rail Terminal achieved record volumes in 2024, moving 540,850 containers by train, up 29,000 containers, or 5.7 percent, from 2023.
