Overview
On Sept. 1, 1881, the Roswell Railroad was completed as a narrow-gauge line connecting the Roswell area with Chamblee and the Atlanta & Charlotte Air-Line Railway.
The roughly 10-mile railroad differed significantly from the route envisioned in the Atlanta & Roswell Railroad’s 1863 charter. Roswell finally received rail service, but not the direct Atlanta or Western & Atlantic connection its leaders had initially pursued.
