Biography

Frank Cannon (d. July 6, 1862) was a locomotive engineer on the Western & Atlantic Railroad during the Civil War. He was serving as engineer of the Excel when it collided with the President near Johnson’s Station, outside Chattanooga. Contemporary newspaper accounts reported that Cannon and fireman George Prince were killed in the crash, along with several Confederate soldiers traveling on the train.
