BEIJING — At least 19 people were killed after a Chinese train was hit by landslides and derailed, The Associated Press reported.
The derailment happened about 2 a.m. May 23, the wire service reported, and 2,000 rescuers responded pulling more than 275 people from the wreckage. The Guilin-bound train was traveling through the eastern Jiangxi province at the time of the wreck.
Officials say heavy rains are to blame for the landslides.
