HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. — Hopkinsville is one of the first cities Railfanning.org visited.

The city has a deep railroad history. The first trains arrived in the city during the 1860s, and after the Civil War, railroads helped the tobacco industry grow in northern Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky, including the Hopkinsville area.

The city at one time was served by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad (today CSX) and the Tennessee Central Railway (later the Illinois Central). The Department of Defense operates a section of the former Tennessee Central line from Hopkinsville to Fort Campbell.
