Norfolk Southern to Replace Lowndes County, Georgia, Railroad Crossing

LAKE PARK, Georgia – Norfolk Southern Corp. plans to replace the railroad crossing on Bellville Road/South Main Street in Lake Park in December, which will close a portion of the road and require traffic to detour.

The road is scheduled to close on Dec. 4 from North Railroad Avenue to South Railroad Avenue. Officials said the closing date is subject to change.

It is expected to remain closed for a week. A detour will route traffic to Exit 5/State Route (SR) 376/Lakes Boulevard, then along Interstate 75 to Exit 2/Lake Park/Bellville Road to access Bellville Road.

Building a new crossing is part of a $12 million project to widen Bellville Road from US 41/SR 7 to I-75. Reames and Son Construction Co. Inc. is the contractor on the widening project. Once the railroad has completed construction of the new crossing, Reames will install the asphalt paving, curb and gutter and sidewalks associated with the new crossing.

The widening project is about 73% complete and is expected to be finished early in 2025.
