FRA Finalizes New Research Reports, Building on Efforts to Gather Information on Long Trains

With train length and the number of long trains increasing, the Federal Railroad Administration finalized three reports on the safety and performance of long trains. FRA recently sent these reports to the National Academy of Sciences to inform an ongoing NAS study mandated by Congress in President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to look at the impact of trains longer than 7,500 feet.

MARTA opens updated Airport Station, advances $1B rehabilitation initiative

(The Center Square) — The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority re-opened its Airport Station on Monday following a six-week closure as part of a multi-million-dollar station update. The $55 million upgrade to the station connected to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is part of a systemwide, roughly $1 billion multi-year Station Rehabilitation Program initiative to overhaul all 38 stations. The transit agency is paying for the upgrades using State of Good Repair Funds from its capital budget. MARTA Reopens Airport Station Following Six-Week Rehab

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Airport Station reopened today after a six-week closure to renovate the concourse and platform levels. Work, including the installation of new terrazzo flooring in the concourse and preparation for installation of the new canopy, was completed during a temporary station closure from April 8 through May 19. “This was an incredibly successful project and I want to thank our customers for bearing with us while we completed this necessary work,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood. “Temporarily closing the station significantly reduced the overall construction time by 17 months
