Sir Jon Thompson, chair of HS2 Ltd, has announced that he will resign in spring after almost four years on the board.
Thompson joined the Board of HS2 Ltd as a non-executive director in April 2021 and subsequently was appointed chair of Britain’s largest rail project. Recently, as executive chair, he also provided continuity while the new chief executive, Mark Wild, was recruited.
During his tenure, Thompson guided HS2 Ltd and its supply chain — a workforce currently exceeding 30,000 — in constructing the infrastructure that will support the high-speed track.
Recruiting a new chair will commence shortly to identify a successor who will lead HS2 Ltd through the next phase of the HS2 project.
Thompson’s successor will work with Wild, who joined the organization at the beginning of the month as CEO, to oversee the completion of the high-speed railway.
