Georgiana & Andalusia Railroad to Replace Three Notch as Operator on Two Alabama lines

The Georgiana & Andalusia Railroad has filed for a federal exemption to assume operations from the Three Notch Railway on two south Alabama lines, totaling approximately 35.6 miles.

The change-in-operator filing covers a 33-mile route between a CSX interchange at Georgiana and approximately milepost 581.3 in Andalusia, as well as a 2.64-mile line in Andalusia. GAR will buy the track and rail improvements on the Georgiana Line from Three Notch and assume Three Notch’s CSX land lease for the underlying right-of-way.

GAR will also assume Three Notch’s lease of the Andalusia Line from Andalusia & Conecuh Railroad. Upon closing, GAR will replace Three Notch as the operator and assume the common carrier obligation on both lines.

The transaction is tied to a separate control filing in which Macquarie Infrastructure Partners V and affiliated entities, including Pinsly Railroad Company, seek authority to continue in control of GAR once it becomes a Class III carrier. GAR certified that the agreements contain no provisions limiting future interchange with third-party railroads.

The railroad also certified its projected annual revenues will remain below $5 million and will not elevate it to Class II or Class I status. Under federal rules, GAR provided notice of the change to all shippers on the affected lines.
