Postcard: Pennsylvania Railroad’s Exchange Place

The earliest incarnation of the Pennsylvania Railroad’s Exchange Place station in Jersey City, the then-terminus of its rail line, opened in 1834. Here, passengers heading to New York City transferred to a ferry to points in Manhattan, including 34th Street or Cortland Street. The railroad replaced the terminal in 1876 and again in about 1888.
