Tennessee-Based Entertainment Company Acquires South Dakota’s 1880 Train

HILL CITY, South Dakota — Tennessee-based World Choice Investments will expand its entertainment holdings with the acquisition of the 1880 Train in Hill City, South Dakota.

The company adds this unique family attraction to its operations of spectacular attractions in Branson, Missouri; Panama City Beach, Florida; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

This announcement comes as the 1880 Train, also known as the Black Hills Central Railroad, opens for the season today, just as the busy late-spring and summer tourism season begins in the area.

Launched in 1957, the 1880 Train is the world’s oldest continuously operating standard-gauge excursion train. With historically accurate restorations of rich hardwood interiors, stained glass and leather seats, the train annually offers a vintage steam train experience to hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota.

The terms of the purchase are private, but Lawrence said that this is a win-win for World Choice Investments and for guests to this popular South Dakota tourism area, continuing an attraction that has delighted visitors for nearly seven decades.

The train operates on the original mining rail spur between the S.D. towns of Hill City and Keystone in the central Black Hills and is near Custer State Park, the Crazy Horse Memorial and Mt. Rushmore.
