AUCKLAND, New Zealand — A pedestrian died after being struck by a train near Baldwin Avenue railway station Tuesday afternoon, Auckland police confirmed.
Police were notified of the incident at 3:28 p.m. The male victim died at the scene.
Police said officers have been working to notify his next of kin. Authorities have not released his identity or age.
Several high school students who were on the station platform at the time of the incident have spoken with police. Authorities are asking anyone else who witnessed what happened but has not yet spoken with investigators to come forward.
Police lifted a cordon around the scene at about 9:30 p.m.
Earlier media reports indicated a young person had been struck by the train, but police have not confirmed that the person killed was a student.
Police are still investigating the circumstances leading to the collision.
