CSX closed a busy grade crossing in downtown Smyrna, Ga., for emergency repair work.
“The reason for the emergency work is due to a discovery associated with a derailment in Chattanooga, TN for the same reason,” the city of Smyrna said in a Facebook post. “The railroad will be replacing 200 ft of the tracks.”
CSX began the work yesterday, and the crossing is expected to reopen today.
The state of Georgia owns the tracks, which are part of the Western & Atlantic Railroad. The state leases the tracks to CSX.
