The New Zealand DSC class locomotive is a heavy shunting locomotive used throughout New Zealand.
The class was built in seven batches, with the first 18 locomotives built by British Thomson-Houston of the United Kingdom and the rest by New Zealand Railways (NZR).
These locomotives are widely used in both the North and South Islands of New Zealand, mainly for heavy yard shunting. Some have also been used for local mainline shunting services. All the class locomotives are now fitted with shunters’ refuges, and most are equipped with remote control capabilities.
