British authorities have published a safety digest after a passenger’s hand was trapped in the door of a train departing Enfield Town station.
Officials said the safety digest should address potential safety concerns and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
At about 6:07 p.m. on July 17, 2024, a passenger was trying to board the train as its doors were closing. The passenger’s hand was trapped, and the train started to depart, forcing the person to run alongside the moving train.
Passengers on the train quickly alerted the driver, who stopped it after it had traveled about 60 meters at 11 mph. The driver then released the doors, allowing the passenger to free their hand.
The passenger sustained minor physical injuries and was left with significant psychological distress from the incident. Rail Accident Investigation Branch officials said they have completed a preliminary investigation into the incident’s circumstances.
