The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority’s Brookhaven rail station will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 16, following a six-week construction project to replace aging pavers on the train platform.
After MARTA announced the project, Brookhaven city officials said they were caught off guard that Gold Line trains would temporarily skip the station so construction crews could replace pavers, according to a report. Officials said that skipping the station allowed crews to work faster and more safely, reducing the construction timeline by almost two years and decreasing project costs by $9 million.
The full Brookhaven Station project will cost $13 million through fiscal year 2027. It is part of MARTA’s multi-year, roughly $1 billion Station Rehabilitation Program, designed to improve and enhance safety and aesthetics at all 38 rail stations.
Work previously completed at the station includes parking lot repaving, Americans with Disabilities Act access improvements, and roof replacement on the traction power substation.
The platform paver work from Oct. 7 through Nov. 15 is one part of the overall rehabilitation project at the station. Additional work includes the rehabilitation of the concourse, canopy and wall repairs, sign upgrades, and new SMART restrooms that use technology to ensure the spaces are clean and safe.
All rail and bus services at Brookhaven will operate as scheduled starting Nov. 16.
