Overview
On April 10, 1863, Georgia approved an act incorporating the Atlanta & Roswell Railroad Company. The charter authorized a railroad from Roswell to Atlanta and allowed the company to connect with the Western & Atlantic Railroad at or near Atlanta.
The railroad was not built under the original charter. After the Civil War, the company shifted its attention toward a connection with the Atlanta & Richmond Air-Line Railway, changing the route and railroad system on which the project depended.
