Amtrak wants more than $1.7 billion in federal tax dollars for the Northeast Corridor, William J. Flynn, Amtrak’s president & CEO, said in a letter to congressional leaders.
Following a conversation with Congress about what it says is its federal funding needs for the 2021 fiscal year, Amtrak submitted a letter to Vice President Mike Pence and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi formalizing an ongoing request for up to nearly $4.9 billion this fiscal year for Amtrak and its partners.
The railroad said it is offering one roundtrip between Harrisburg and New York in response to anticipated increased demand. Keystone Service train 640 will operate through to New York and train 653 will originate in New York and operate through to Harrisburg.
Amtrak says it needs an additional $1.475 billion in supplemental funding for the 2021 fiscal year. The passenger railroad outlined its request in a letter it submitted to Congress.
