Hapuawhenua Viaduct

(Todd DeFeo/The DeFeo Groupe)

The Hāpuawhenua Viaduct is situated just north of Ohakune within the Tongariro National Park and is part of the North Island Main Trunk line.

The current viaduct, the “new” Hāpuawhenua Viaduct, was completed in 1987. It replaced the “old” Hāpuawhenua Viaduct, built in 1908. The old viaduct still stands nearby.
