Great Train Wreck of 1918

The Great Train Wreck of 1918 on July 9, 1918, near Nashville, Tennessee, is one of the worst railroad crashes in history. Two trains — No. 1 from Memphis and headed toward Nashville and No. 4, which departed Nashville for Memphis, collided head-on — at about 7:20 a.m. on a section of single-track line known as “Dutchman’s Curve,” west of downtown Nashville. Train No. 4 was scheduled to depart Nashville at 7 a.m., while train No. 1 was scheduled to arrive in Nashville at 7:10 a.m.
