Blue Ridge Scenic Railway Takes a Trip Back in Time Through N. Ga. Mountains
The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway has been ferrying tourists and railfans between Blue Ridge, Ga., and the Georgia-Tennessee state line since 1998. The heritage railroad train departs from the historic 1906 Louisville & Nashville Railroad depot in downtown Blue Ridge and treks northward for an hour, providing riders with a beautiful view of the scenic North Georgia landscape.

Amtrak to Celebrate National Train Day on May 10
Amtrak will celebrate the seventh annual National Train Day on May 10, the railroad said. In addition to events in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Los Angeles, Amtrak is supporting events in many local markets across the country served by Amtrak. Event offerings include train equipment displays, family-friendly activities and local dignitaries.

CSX Urges STB to Reject Switching Plan
CSX Transportation is opposing a proposal before the Surface Transportation Board (STB) the railroad says would create unpredictable traffic flows, reduce high levels of customer service achieved over the past few years, and diminish the company’s incentive to keep investing at record levels in critically needed transportation infrastructure.

Amtrak wants 16 percent more in federal funding for FY2015
Amtrak wants federal taxpayers to pony up 16 percent more in funding for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2015, according to a new request from the railroad. For the fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1, the railroad is asking for $1.62 billion in federal support. Amtrak received approximately $1.4 billion from in federal funds for the current fiscal year.

CN: Disturbed by Canadian Government Legislation
CN said it is disappointment with Canadian government legislation tabled today by Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and Transportation Minister Lisa Raitt to increase regulatory intrusion and oversight for rail grain transportation, and to introduce new rules for the extension of interswitching limits in the rail industry.
