DALTON, Ga. — In the first three parts of this series, we highlighted a bit of the history of Dalton, the historic freight depot in the middle of town and the benefits of targeting railfans to visit a city.
From a railfanning perspective, what makes Dalton such a great place to watch trains is not just the volume, though that does make it hard to pass up. Dalton features such a diverse array of motive power.
Case in point: During a recent two-hour railfanning escapade, I caught four trains. The locomotives on each train represented a different U.S. Class I railroad: Norfolk Southern, CSX, BNSF and Union Pacific.
This all transpired in a matter of about two hours. Happy railfanning.
