An engineering train narrowly avoided a collision with a heavy goods vehicle at the Craven Arms manually controlled barrier level crossing in Shropshire at 10 a.m. on July 22.
Officials said the incident, which occurred while the crossing barriers were raised, allowing road vehicles to cross, has prompted a safety review.
The train had been signaled to proceed and nearly collided with the truck using the crossing. There were no injuries in the near mishap, and no damage was reported.
In response, authorities have initiated a preliminary investigation to understand the circumstances that led to the near-miss.
Based on the evidence collected, officials said they published a safety digest to address potential safety concerns and prevent future occurrences. Officials said the digest will likely include recommendations for improving safety protocols at manually controlled level crossings.
