Deadly Streetcar-Passenger Train Collision in Clarksville, Tennessee

Overview

On Oct. 2, 1926, Citizens Street Railway trolley No. 5 collided with Louisville & Nashville passenger train No. 102 at Commerce and Tenth streets. Operator George W. Hogue said the streetcar’s brakes failed to stop it on rails made slippery by water from a broken main. The collision killed Charles Yarbrough and led to years of litigation.
