MARIETTA, Ga. — The Gem City of Georgia never fails to delight when it comes to railfanning.
The city, as has been well-documented, sits on the CSX main line between Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tenn. The line is owned by the state of Georgia and was built as the Western & Atlantic Railroad in the years before the Civil War.

That resulted in a 1,447-foot-long tunnel through Chetoogeta Mountain and a bridge over the Etowah River south of Cartersville.
