Watching Amtrak Stop in Winter Park

WINTER PARK, Fla. — Winter Park has a deep railroad history. Today, it is served by long-distance Amtrak trains and SunRail commuter trains.

A new station opened in this bucolic community in 2014. The new depot replaced a 1962 Atlantic Coast Line station that served passengers.

Amtrak trains stopping Winter Park harken back to an older time in railroading. The station platforms cross roads running through the middle of town, and trains block rail crossings when they stop in town. Here, the railroad is truly the center of town.

The above pictures were taken on Dec. 30, 2014.
